The Philippines’ Strategy for Medical Tourism: Tapping into the Middle East Market

  The Philippine Department of Tourism has recently announced its intention to target the Middle East market and promote the country as a medical and wellness destination. While the Philippines has traditionally been associated with recreational tourism due to its beautiful beaches and diving spots, the country is now seeking to tap into the health tourism sector as well. With the government making policy adjustments to create a climate conducive to medical tourism, the country is well-positioned to become a tourism powerhouse in Asia. The Philippines has 23 health facilities that are accredited and recognized by the International Society for Quality in Health Care, and medical treatment is considerably cheaper than in Gulf countries, Europe, or the EU.
